Display Advertising Sizes |
| Newspaper advertising is measured in columns wide x inches deep. To determine the total column inches of an ad, multiply the ads column width x its inch depth. An ad two columns wide x five inches deep, is a 10 column inch ad.
Column widths vary from newspaper to newspaper. While some South Dakota newspapers are using the newer PASS format, others continue to use the earlier Standard Advertising Unit (SAU), and others (mostly tabloid format papers) use a variety of formats and column widths. Since this can be confusing, for advertisers convenience we recommend ads be produced to fit the smallest ad format in use at the newspapers you are advertising in. At those papers with larger column formats, ads will float with minimal white space at the sides of the ad. If an advertiser wishes to build ads that fit the exact column measurements of each newspaper used, here is a size chart showing the widths of all columns (RETAIL ADVERTISING) in all South Dakota newspapers. Here is a pdf file showing CLASSIFIED DISPLAY ad sizes (daily papers only). For the column widths of newspapers in other states, please send an e-mail detailing your request, here or call 1-800-658-3697. |
